It is now well into 2018 and things have been busy for us. The 2018 Australian Ski Speed & Marathon Championships were held on 9 – 13 Jan. Jindabyne Lions were there to feed and water the contestants and spectators. The contestant numbers were well down on last year because of a couple of event timing clashes but we did a good job and the group were happy with our support. Thank you to those who volunteered and helped Wendy and the catering team.

Community Sausage Sizzle @ Mitre 10. Our first sausage sizzle was held on Sat 20 January, this is a regular monthly event that Lions host on the third Saturday of the month. If you haven’t volunteered for one already, send Wendy a message. It is easy, fun and good exposure for Lions. Wendy’s Mobile 0408 489 141

The inaugural Lions Australia Day Celebrations   were held at Banjo Paterson Park on Friday 26 January.  Since amalgamation Snowy Monaro Regional Council now hold only one official event for the shire and that is in Cooma. This year Lions volunteered to host a Jindabyne celebration, so our locals didn’t miss out on the fun. SMRC supplied the Australia Day Ambassador, Emma Rossi, who was warmly welcomed and appreciated for her address. They also made a small donation towards costs of the day, otherwise we were on our own.

In short it was an excellent morning. A huge thanks to Sue Sell, Erin and Tracy who sang their hearts out for around two hours with great Aussie favourites. This was done FOC and gave a wonderful atmosphere. Councilor Peter Beer MC’d and gave a talk on behalf of SMRC out thanks to him for stepping up to the mark for Jindabyne. The Lions BBQ breakfast, coordinated by Wendy, was a great hit. Thanks to the BBQ team for pulling together to make it another memorial meal. Our Aussie Food tasting tent with Dampers and Golden Syrup (thank you Wendy), Lamingtons, Fairy Bread, Vegemite sandwiches and ANZAC biscuits went down a treat. I can’t believe how many kids haven’t tasted damper and golden syrup!!!!! The temporary Australia Day Tattoos were lots of fun for young and old…and in between. The Whip Cracking demo and participation, snail races, gum boot throw and egg toss created a very fun, competitive atmosphere again, thank you Wendy for that fun touch.

Thanks to David Farmer for supplying and running the Kids Jumping castle…there were some very happy “big kids” having a go as well.

Next year we will do it all again but definitely bigger and better. Lots of good feedback and ideas to consider. ………….

One of our biggest events of the Lions calendar is the Jindabyne Lions Art Show & Sale. This is held from 29 March to 7 April. We need all hands-on deck for this one. There are many different jobs to do to help the committee to make this a success. More information will be sent to you a bit later with specific requests for roles. Terry Chalk is our Master of Arts and he will again be leading the charge on this one with a small but very enthusiastic committee.

The next Dinner meeting is on Tuesday 13 February at Jindabyne Bowling and sports club. Please let Jack know if you will be attending so we have dinner numbers. If you have any friends that you want to introduce to Lions, please feel free to bring them along to check us out. Jack Mobile 0408 207 279
