March sees the election of the Board of Directors of the Lions Club of Jindabyne for 2018. Nominations are invited and accepted up to and including 13 March. You will have received full details from Secretary Brian, please read through the information and consider a position. If the club is to remain strong and effective we need a full contingent of positions to help direct and administer our community and fundraising events. If you would like more information talk to one of the current board members to find out what is required.
We recently did a FB post to promote the Lions Spectacle Recycle program. We had a good response and thanks to Lion Brian for collecting and processing these items. This is an ongoing program that has running for over 26 years and has delivered over 7 Million pair of refurbished quality spectacles to people in need.
March is also Lions Awareness Month. If you know of anyone who is interested in becoming part of the Lions Club please feel free to being them along to a dinner meeting to learn more about what Lions International do and how they can become of our organisation.
The Community Sausage Sizzle hosted by Lions at Mitre 10 on the third Saturday of each month is going well and gaining in popularity. This is a simple and fun community interaction and helps with our ongoing fundraising to give back to the community. We require two members each month to run this so please talk to Lion Wendy if you would like to add your name to the roster.
In February Lions members helped out at two major events, the Mountain Bike Festival on 9 – 11 Feb and the TreX Snowy Mountains Triathlon and Multisport Festival 24 – 25 Feb at Lake Crackenback Resort. We received a small payment for each volunteer we provided be it member, family or friend. We had a small but very enthusiastic bank of helpers who rose very early and braved the weather condition to help make the event successful. Thank you to those who made a super effort.
The Easter Art Show & Sale is our biggest event of the year. The Mitre 10 sponsored opening night on 29 March is one of the premiere nights out in Jindabyne and the CWA catering is always popular. The exhibition runs from Friday 30 March to Saturday 7 April and we requires Sitters to man the entry and sales desk for all of these days. If you can spare some time we are aiming to have at least one Lions member per shift supported by volunteers of family, friends and anyone one else who would like to help.
This is a big event and does require a lot of effort. Lion Terry and his small committee can only do so much. Help is required for set up, pull down, sitters and other bits and pieces. If you can contribute please contact Terry for any general information, Nira for sitters and Jack or Wendy for set up and pull down. We want this event to continue and we want it to be successful and with your help it can be so. Entries are accepted at registration on Sunday 25 March and pull down is Sunday 8 April with a couple of big weeks indeed.
At the last Board meeting donations were approved for The Salvation Army, Lions Hearing Dog program, Careflight, Lions Eye Health program, and tickets purchased for the Lion Big Red Kidney Bus fundraiser.
Future events that we have committed to help at are the Op Shop Fashion Parade later in the year and another biggie for us catering at the Amcross 19 & 20 May at Kalkite.
Our next board meeting is Tuesday 6 March and the Dinner meeting is Tuesday 13 March at the Jindabyne Bowling & Sports Club.
